About Mrs. Kaneko
Welcome and hello! That is me, Mrs. Kaneko, in 1st grade celebrating my favorite season, Fall!!
About me... I began my incredible teaching journey at Oster 16 years ago in kindergarten! After 3 years I was lucky enough to move up to 1st grade and began working with a wonderful team. I've had so much fun in 1st grade I didn't want to leave! During this time, I also taught a K/1 combination. My home away from home has been in the cheerful primary colored Room 2.
I grew up in the Cambrian area and haven't left yet! I went to San Jose State for my B.A. in Child Development, then continued on there to get my teaching credential. After teaching for a few years, I went back and received my Masters in Education with an emphasis in Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment. Since then I continue to want to learn and attend workshops and conferences to stay up to date with the current happens in education.
I have held many important roles at Oster and for Union School District throughout the years. I have been a teacher representative for the teachers union, as well as the treasurer for 3 years. I have taught a variety of after-school classes, including math club, keyboarding, homework tutoring. Also, I enjoyed being on the English-Language Arts Common Core team.
I am also involved in my community. I have participated in Relay for Life since 2006. I have been a participant, team captain, and Team Development chair. This fundraiser helps to raise money to support the research in hopes of finding a cure for cancer. No one should have to hear, "you have cancer" so I fight this battle for the future.
I am excited to start the new school year with group of 1st graders! At home, I enjoy spending time with my husband, 2.5 year old son, Rei and 1 year old daughter, Hana. We like to watch and go to San Francisco Giants and San Jose Earthquakes games. In my free time, I like to read, scrapbook, make cards, and have playdates!
